Professor Stoyan Stavru holds a PhD in Law (2009), a PhD in Philosophy (2015), and a Doctor of Philosophical Sciences degree (2021). Since 2021, he has served as Head of the “Ethical Studies” Section at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. He is also a professor at Plovdiv University (since 2020) and a lecturer at Sofia University (since 2004). Stoyan Stavru is the founder of the professional platform “Challenging the Law!” (2010) and of the expert legal system „Lexebra“ (2022).
His principal research interests include bioethics and biolaw, ethics and technology, ethics and literature, and the philosophy of property. He is the author of numerous monographs, among which are: „World-spins in legal thought. On the Generative Potential of the Interaction between Literature and Law“ (2024); „Transcending trash: A Philosophical Exploration of Waste and Ownership“ (2024); „Moral dimensions of property in ecological context (Towards a Justification of a “Proprietary” Ecology)“ (2021); Medical Error (2015); „Biolaw: Visions in Pandora’s Box“, Book One and Book Two (2013); „Issues of Bulgarian Property Law“ (2008, 2010); „The Human Body as an Object of Property Rights“ (2008), among others.
He is actively engaged in fostering public and scholarly awareness of the challenges of bioethics, biolaw, and the ethical and legal regulation of the human body.
